M Indicator is a mobile app for navigating public transport in Mumbai and Pune, providing real-time train tracking and offline timetables. Despite its functionality, the app faced significant usability challenges.
/ THe problem
Through heuristic evaluation using Nielsen's principles, we identified critical usability issues impacting user experience and task completion.
Key Challenges:
Inconsistent features across platforms
High mental load switching between tasks
No support for recent/favorite routes
Cluttered interface with unused features
Poor readability in daylight
Confusing navigation for new users
/ The Challenge
/ The solution
We redesigned the app to enhance usability while retaining essential features. The homepage now highlights key transport modes, with clearer categorization for intuitive navigation. We introduced “Recent” and “Favorite Routes” for daily commuters, along with smart suggestions based on user behavior. Visual design improvements include light/dark themes for better readability. A guided onboarding, improved booking flow, and proactive alerts ensure a seamless, personalized commuting experience.
